West Pennant Hills falls in the Hills Shire and Hornsby Shire local government districts, 20 km north-west of Sydney Central Trade Area. It shares the Postcode of 2125 with the Pennant Hills suburb, which was a separate eastern suburb in 1996.
The founder of Thompsons Corner is Andrew Thompson (1773-1810), a prisoner who, in the year 1796, obtained a grant of 100 hectares (0.40 km2).
