About Stanhope Gardens

Stanhope Gardens is a Sydney suburb located in New South Wales, Australia.

Stanhope Gardens is located 39 kilometers northwest of the central business district of Sydney, in the Town of Blacktown division of local government.

Stanhope Gardens is part of the Greater Western Sydney district. It is also identified as  part of the Hills District.

History of Stanhope Gardens

John Hillas settled in Australia in 1801 and obtained two land grants on Windsor Road in 1801 and 1804. He called the second land, which is 150 acres big, "Stanhope Ranch." To compensate for the traffic between the Macquarie Towns and Parramatta, he opened up a hotel, which he named the Stanhope Arms on Windsor Street.

In 1856, Stanhope Farm was owned by the Pearce family. Jack Peel bought Stanhope Farm in 1928, and named it Stanhope Park Dairy.

In 1973, Stanhope Park Dairy was obligatorily reopened by the New South Wales Housing Commission.

Such early properties are expressed in the subdivision name. Stanhope Gardens Estate was opened in 1995 and was recognized in 1996 as a suburb.

The Stanhope Blacktown Leisure Centre, which is a wellness and aquatic centre has a wave pool and library. Located away from the shopping center, the Blacktown City Council runs it. In October 2016, this hosted the 2016 Oceania Women`s Handball Championship.
