Pitt Town is a historic Sydney community and suburb located in New South Wales province of Australia. Pitt Town is situated 59 kilometers northwest of the central business district of Sydney in the City of Hawkesbury local government area. This is surrounded by the Hawkesbury River to the north.
Pitt Town locality was formerly the Darug people`s residence for more than 40,000 years. The Darug community through various tribes populated a wide region of Western Sydney drainage.
The area now known as Pitt Town and Pitt Town Bottoms have been defined for the aboriginal group as Bardo Narang (also known as Barden Narang and Bardenarang). It means a "small channel," specifically referring to the freshwater stream that runs north from the Pitt Town Lagoon to the Hawkesbury Dam.
Macquarie Arms Inn is a heritage-listed former inn and now home. It was also known in its time as the Blighton Arms and Flemings Public House, while Mulgrave Place became the main house on the property.
This was listed on 2 April 1999 to the New South Wales State Heritage Register.
Pitt Town Public School is an Australian primary school on Buckingham Road. This is Pitt Town`s fourth school-house. The first and original schoolhouse was built around 1814 and was located along present-day Old Pitt Town Road, near the present burial ground of the Church of England.
