About Pennant Hills

Pennant Hills is a suburb along Sydney's Upper North Shore, New South Wales , Australia.

Pennant Hills is 20 kilometers northwest of the central business district of Sydney in the Hornsby Shire local government area. West Pennant Hills is a distinct West Pennant Hills neighborhood and a member of the Hills Area.

History of Pennant Hills

There are two theories regarding the origins of the name of the suburb. First, it was believed that the name derived from a hill in the early days of New South Wales where a pennant was flown as a warning.

While these signals were definitely used, there is no indication that such a pennant actually flew at what is now called the Pennant Hills. However, in the early 19th century, the term extended all the way down the ridge as far as Mobbs Hill, which has a Telegraph Road to mark the signposting.

Tourist attraction in Pennant Hills

On two sides, Pennant Hills is encircled by broad bushland streams. To the east, the suburb is bordered by the upper reaches of the Lane Cove River and its adjacent national park. Pennant Hills borders Berowra Valley National Park in the northwest. Both of these reserves have extensive walking tracks within the periphery of the suburb, some of which link to the Great North Walk.

Schools in Pennant Hills

There are two public schools in Pennant Hills: the Pennant Hills Public School of 1925 and the 1966 Pennant Hills High School. They also have two Catholic colleges, Mount St Benedict College and St. Agatha Catholic Primary school.
