About Parramatta

Parramatta is the City of Parramatta's major commercial suburb located in Greater Sydney, New South Wales , Australia. 

It is located on the banks of the Parramatta River, about 23 kilometers (14 mi ) west of Sydney's central business district. 

Parramatta is the City of Parramatta's administrative centre and is also considered a financial hub for both the Greater Parramatta area and the Greater Western Sydney district.

History of Parramatta

Radiocarbon analysis indicates that human presence in Parramatta happened around 30,000 years earlier. The Darug people who lived in the region before European settlement saw the region as being abundant in river and forest resources. They named the region Baramada or Burramatta ('Parramatta') meaning "top of waters," "the spot where the eels are resting" or "eel waters."

Parramatta Park is a wide park next to Western Sydney Stadium. It is  a common venue for biking, jogging and cycling. It was originally the Domain of the Governor, being property set aside for the Governor to satisfy his agricultural needs, before it was gazetted in 1858 as a public park.
