North Rocks is a suburb situated 26 kilometers northwest of the central business district of Sydney in the Hills Area of Greater Western Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Following the consolidation of council areas in 2016, the majority of North Rocks falls into the City of Parramatta council area.
The term North Rocks goes back to the history of the Parramatta settlement and is much older than the naming of the town itself, which was named Rosehill at first.
Governor Phillip designated broad regions to Rosehill`s north and west in 1789 for the usage of government property-the new Northmead and Westmead. The northward reserve was defined as stretching to `the North Rocks.` The region was once known as the Rocks of Jerusalem.
There are several parks and reserves in Northern Rocks, including the Bidjigal Reserve, which is distinguished by floating eucalyptus trees, weathered hill sandstone and sparkling river creeks.
Fauna comprises koala, wallaby lake, echidna, gliders of sugar and dragon of eastern mud. Platypus was seen regularly up to the sewer`s installation in the mid-1970s, but since then none. The bird variety is well established with 127 species being recorded in the Bidjigal Reserve.
