About Hornsby

Hornsby is a suburb located on the Upper North Shore in Sydney, New South Wales Australia. It is also part of the Hornsby Shire, along with surrounding suburbs Waitara, Asquith and Normanhurst.

The suburb is about 19 kilometres north-west of the Sydney central business district.

History of Hornsby

The name Hornsby was derived from  Samuel Henry Horne, a convict-turned-constable who took part in the apprehension of bushrangers. Due to that reason he was granted land which he named Hornsby Place. 

Tourist Attractions in Hornsby

There are must visit attractions in Hornsby. 

This includes the Bobbin Head, a popular area offering great attractions and facilities including picnic spots, fishing, bush walking and boating. 

The Lisgar Garden that features many colourful flowers and plants, luscious native trees, a fish pond and a gazebo. It also has walking trails through the rainforest passing by streams leading to waterfalls. 

Also the Westfield Hornsby which is a shopping centre home to many well known retail stores, cafes and restaurants including the Events cinema complex.

Schools and Sports in Hornsby 

Hornsby is home to a number of schools. 

The primary schools include the Hornsby North Public School, Hornsby South Public School, Hornsby Heights Public School and Clarke Road Special School. The secondary schools are Barker College and Hornsby Girls` High School, which is a selective school. At the north-western side of Hornsby  there is a TAFE College.

Hornsby has the Hornsby Rugby Union Football Club which is a rugby union team that currently competes in the Central Coast competition.
