Baulkham Hills, also known as Baulko is a suburb in the Hills District of Greater Western Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. It is the administrative seat of The Hills Shire, an outer metropolitan shire within Greater Sydney.
The suburb is approximately 31 kilometres north-west of the Sydney central business district .
Baulkham Hills was originally home to the Bidjigal people, who occupied all the land to the immediate west of Sydney.
In 1794, William Joyce, the first European settler in the suburb was given a grant of 30 acres in what now became Baulkham Hills. The suburb`s name was given by Andrew McDougall, a settler from Buckholm Hills, County of Roxburgh, Scotland. The name was officially recognised in 1802.
The suburb features a number of parks and reserves including the Bidjigal Reserve, which is previously known as Excelsior Reserve. It has native fauna such as koala, swamp wallaby, echidna, and eastern water dragon.
The smaller reserves include the Sophia Doyle Reserve and the Crestwood Reserve. These reserves are the habitat to brushtail and ringtail possums and a wide range of birds and lizards.
There are numerous educational institutions in the suburb.
This includes Matthew Pearce Public School, Crestwood High School, Crestwood Public School, Baulkham Hills High School, Model Farms High School, Baulkham Hills North Public School, Jasper Road Public School, St. Michael`s Primary School, and Our Lady of Lourdes Primary School.
An Army Cadet Unit was included and open only to students at the Baulkham Hills High School.
